Intraoperative cuff pressure measurements of endotracheal tubes in the operating theater: A prospective audit

چکیده

Background: Endotracheal tube (ETT) intracuff pressure (PINTRACUFF) monitoring is not a mandatory part of daily anesthetic practice in many countries. Correct PINTRACUFF required to ensure adequate ventilation, prevent aspiration, and avoid complications. The aim this study was objectively measure the ETTs among patients from an Australian tertiary hospital define range values seen setting without use routine objective monitoring. Patients Methods: A prospective single-center audit 268 elective emergency surgical undergoing general anesthesia with ETT performed. were measured calibrated cuff manometer following induction anesthesia. Patient characteristics compared between three patient groups values: 20 cmH2O, 20–30 >30 cmH2O. Results: To estimate PINTRACUFF, only auditory method used 66.0% patients, tactile 18.3%, remainder both or other methods. Following anesthesia, mean 31.0 cmH2O (±standard deviation 16.4). 30 had marginally higher body mass index (BMI)

An inexpensive homemade balloon cuff for endotracheal tubes.

In 1893, Maydl’ conceived of a plan for introducing an anesthetic through a tracheal tube; and Eisenmenger’ added an inflatable cuff around the distal end of the tube. However nothing was done with these ideas for over a quarter of a century. In 1924, Waters2 described the “carbon-dioxide absorption” method of anesthesia, and four years later Waters and Guedel3 published an article on the “Intr...

Study of endotracheal tube cuff pressure and time of measurement among intensive care units patients

Introduction: The pressure in the endotracheal tube cuff must be kept within an optimal range, to make sure tracheal capillaries circulation still stable during positive ventilation. This is essential to avoid oral and gastric stuffing aspiration Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the endotracheal tube cuff pressure and time intervals measurements among intensive care units...

Prevalence and predictors of out-of-range cuff pressure of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes: a prospective cohort study in mechanically ventilated patients

BACKGROUND Maintaining the cuff pressure of endotracheal tubes (ETTs) within 20-30 cmH2O is a standard practice. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of standard practice in maintaining cuff pressure within the target range. METHODS This was a prospective observational study conducted in a tertiary-care intensive care unit, in which respiratory therapists (RTs) measured the ...

Cuff pressure of endotracheal tubes after changes in body position in critically ill patients treated with mechanical ventilation.

BACKGROUND In order to avoid microaspiration and tracheal injury, the target for endotracheal tube cuff pressure is 20 to 30 cm H2O. OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of changes in body position on cuff pressure in adult patients. METHODS Twelve orally intubated and sedated patients received neuromuscular blockers and were positioned in a neutral starting position (backrest, head-of-bed elevat...
